Unexpectedly great pieces with strong subtle and consistent figure throughout. This is a great deal, and ships very quickly.
After searching the web for quality wood at affordable prices, I found this. I bought the bargain bin carve top and then at checkout I find out it’s a bogo. Ok, must be terrible quality, but for two tops at 49.00 with shipping, I wouldn’t lose much. Got to my door in 3 days and I was amazed at how nice the tops are, nice figure and right at an inch thick, thinking resaw,. My wife is going to hate it.
First of all, the price was great. When I received my order (faster than I would have expected) I was pleasantly surprised with the figure and relatively few amount of grain imperfections and discolorations. I primarily build archtops and these boards are a bit small width-wise, but I knew that going in. I am incredibly satisfied with my purchase and will be placing additional orders and highly recommend this company for their GREAT prices and quality of the wood.
The peices I got weren't planned flat on the side I needed to glue up so they wouldn't go together and I had to put some extra work to make them fit but otherwise good for the price
I expected 7/8" at most, maybe less. Came in over 1 1/8". It may not be the most figured maple, but mine didn't even have any blemishes. If you need some slabs on a budget you can't beat this.
These were basically as described, flamed maple book match sets, minor cosmetic grain blemishes. These sets, even with shipping charges added are the best deal you'll find anywhere if you are on a tight budget for your project.
Excellent product, excellent price, excellent service. More figure than I expected.
Great value for the money. This carve top has nice figuring and is plenty thick. I'm really lookin forward to getting going with it. As always, ASH was quick in their turn around; I had this at my door in two days.
I'm new to lutherie, and i thought this would be a good practice top i wouldn't mind ruining if i made a mistake, but it was still maple so i could always slap some veneer over it or paint it a solid color and have an LP-ish body if it came out alright. I was surprised when i got it in the light and saw some good, even flame. It did have a knot on the very edge in a place you'd almost never use, and along the edges again where you'd never use there's a small spot mirrored in the bookmatch, but way off on the side. For fifteen bucks i expected borderline garbage for practice, and ended up with something that shouldn't even need veneer, if i don't mess it up learning. ; )
