HIGH STIFFNESS TO WEIGHT RATIO

The use of maple provides a high stiffness to weight ratio, which makes an exceptional material for use in creating a neck that can withstand a considerable range of string tensions.

DIMENSIONALLY STABLE

Since most lumber has a natural tendency to undergo dimensional changes in different environments, the process of torrefaction (also known as thermal modification or roasting) significantly reduces its sensitivity to different temperatures and humidity levels. By roasting a neck blank, one can expect to have long-term dimensional stability when compared to other conventional methods.

    Perfectly quartered. Straight grain. Clean of defects. Flat. And has a little hard maple figure to it. Wil buy again.

    I always receive great pieces from ASH. I get quartersawn neck blanks for my bass building. Clear pieces, and the grain is wonderfully vertical. The photo on the site is a good representation of the blanks. I can use new blanks rather quickly, due to the roasting process. Once received, they do not need much acclimation, to my shop. I have never had one warp or check.

    This is exactly what everyone would want in a piece of neck wood. Perfectly quartersawn with no run out, nice narrow even grain, no defects. As nice a neck blank as I've seen in 42 years in instrument making.
