Q: WHAT IS A PAINT GRADE BODY BLANK?
For your next build, perhaps you are going to conceal your guitar body with another material. A paint grade body blank is available for guitar bodies that will NOT expose any of its base material.
Q: WHAT KINDS OF DEFECTS MIGHT BE INCLUDED IN A PAINT GRADE BODY BLANK?
Defects may include inconsistent grain color, orientation and/or overall appearance. They may also include structurally sound knots and/or worm holes that do not exceed 3/16" in diameter. You will NOT receive a body blank that includes large knots (3/16" and over) and/or cracks within the Stratocaster pattern area.
Q: HOW DO I PURCHASE A PAINT GRADE BODY BLANK IN ADDITION TO MY APPEARANCE GRADE BODY BLANK?
Step One: After selecting your specifications, ensure that the "Convert To Paint Grade" checkbox is unchecked and select "Add To Cart". This will add an appearance grade body blank to your cart.
Step Two: With your specifications still selected, check the "Convert To Paint Grade" checkbox to convert your body blank to one that will be of lesser quality, but will still be suitable for paint coverage. Select "Add To Cart" to add your body blank to your cart as a separate item.

Well, I guess I didn't realize there was an option for having it glued together before shipment. I assumed a body blank was just that - a ready to go "blank" already glued. I was surprised to find 4 separate pieces, but I do have the tools to glue it together. My mistake. Wood seems of very good quality.

Basswood body blank
Wow. Many would choose basswood for its tonal qualities but expect to use a dark stain if not a solid color finish as it can be quite unattractive by itself. Not this piece. The ribbony grain, creamy uniform appearance and lack of mineral streaks will be perfect for a transparent treatment. A couple small pin knots present can be positioned under a route or simply left alone for character. I'm a big fan of the basswood with maple top recipe and the impression that this will look great in its natural state is huge. Very pleased.
